Liverpool have their eyes on an elite talent but Manchester City stand in their way. They plan to beat Pep Guardiola's team for another superstar.
Liverpool surprised everyone at the start of the summer as they entered the race for Florian Wirtz. The battle to sign the German was thought to be a two-horse race.
Bayern Munich were overwhelming favourites to land Wirtz, while Manchester City were competing there, too. Their vast fortunes - and desire to replace Kevin De Bruyne - gave them a chance of beating Bayern to the player.
Then came Liverpool, who out muscled both teams to secure Wirtz's transfer. It's something they'd essentially never done before, not to this scale for a player so in demand.
We'll see if it was all worth it. Wirtz's start has been slow, even if he's clearly a wonderful player. It certainly hasn't stopped Liverpool from trying to repeat the trick.
Liverpool will try to beat Man City to Antoine Semenyo, according to Sky Sports. Tottenham Hotspur are also pushing to sign the player after his electric start to the season.
It does feel as though Semenyo is having a breakout campaign. He’s been fantastic, picking up from last season and moving on another level.
The winger has played every minute for Bournemouth in the Premier League, delivering six goals and three assists. It’s his running with the ball that’s really caught the eye, though - Semenyo looks unstoppable at times.
