Liverpool plot swoop for Spain’s World Cup hero Ferran Torres as Barcelona contract ticks down | OneFootball

Liverpool are considering a move to sign Spain World Cup hero Ferran Torres this summer.

Torres was the difference as Spain beat Argentina 1-0 to win the 2026 World Cup on Sunday, netting an extra-time winner from the bench.

The forward's club future remains uncertain, however, with less than 12 months to run on his contract atBarcelona. The Spanish champions are also pursuing the signing of a centre-forward, with strong interest in Julian Alvarez.

Barcelona havesubmitted an offer for Alvarez, who has been targeted as the club's long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.

Interest in Alvarez leaves Torres' future up in the air. The forward enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career in Catalonia last season, scoring 16 league goals from 33 games, of which only 23 came from the start.

According toL'Equipe, Liverpool are eyeing an opportunity to bring Torres to the Premier League. Andoni Iraola has reportedly identified his compatriot as an option to boost a forward line depleted by Mohamed Salah's exit and Hugo Ekitike's long-term Achilles issue.

The latter is not expected to return until 2027 and Torres' contract situation, alongside an ability to operate across a front three, boost his appeal.

The 26-year-old has scored 65 goals in 201 games since signing for Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022. He had scored 18 goals in 43 appearances for the Cityzens during an 18-month spell in English football.

Paris Saint-Germain have also been named as admirers, with ex-Barcelona boss Luis Enrique appreciative of Torres' profile.
