Liverpool have picked a top transfer target. A €52m star could join soon.
Apito Final reports that Liverpool have made Diogo Costa their top transfer target in goal. The Reds have been linked with a move for a new goalkeeper over the last few weeks.
Costa is one of the biggest and most interesting targets, though. The FC Porto star has a release clause of €52m and right in the prime of his career - a mix that could easily tempt Liverpool into a move.
The 26-year-old has enjoyed another brilliant season in Portugal, with Porto running away with the title. Incredibly, they've conceded just 15 goals in 31 matches and Costa boasts one of the absolute best save percentages in the league.
Liverpool's interest comes as Alisson Becker is continuously linked with a move away, specifically to Juventus. It seems the Reds are willing to cash-in on their star Brazilian with just one year remaining on his contract.
Diogo Costa, then, would be a direct replacement and an admittedly brilliant one, all things considered.
FC Porto Performance and Stats
As of 29 April 2026, Diogo Costa continues to be a cornerstone for FC Porto, serving as club captain. In the 2025/26 Liga Portugal season, the 26-year-old has made 28 appearances, recording 18 clean sheets and conceding only 15 goals. He maintains an impressive 78.9% save percentage and an average FotMob rating of 7.35. Most recently, he played the full 90 minutes in a 2–1 victory over Estrela da Amadora on 26 April, though he picked up a late yellow card. While he missed the March international break due to an adductor injury and dorsolumbar pain, he has returned to full fitness for the final stretch of the domestic campaign.
Transfer Speculation and Liverpool Interest
Costa’s future is currently a major talking point as the summer transfer window approaches. Reports from 28 April confirm that Liverpool have "firmly re-emerged" as primary suitors, viewing him as the ideal long-term successor to Alisson Becker. Although he signed a contract extension until 2030, his deal reportedly includes a release clause of £52 million (€60m). While Manchester City has also been linked as a potential replacement for Ederson, Liverpool are currently leading the interest, with sources suggesting he is at the top of their goalkeeping shortlist.
International Standing
With 42 caps for Portugal, Costa remains the undisputed number one for the national team. Despite the minor injury setback in March, he is expected to lead the Seleção at the 2026 World Cup this June, where Portugal will face Uzbekistan and Colombia in Group K.
