Liverpool are ramping up their efforts to sign Rosenborg’s highly-rated midfielder Sverre Nypan as they look to beat a host of European clubs to his signature. According to FootballTransfers, “The Merseyside club are determined to secure a deal for the 18-year-old Nypan, whose rapid rise in Norway has caught the attention of Europe’s elite.”
Nypan’s development has been meteoric. Having broken into Rosenborg’s first team in 2022, he has already racked up 60 senior appearances, contributing directly to 24 goals. His composure in midfield, versatility, and technical ability have drawn comparisons to Arsenal’s Martin Ødegaard.

Liverpool, known for their ability to nurture young talent, believe Nypan could be a crucial part of their long-term project under Arne Slot.
Despite speculation that Nypan would decide his next move in January, his future remains undecided. However, his father confirmed to VG that a decision will be made before the summer:
“We know the clubs’ interest in Sverre. It’s been very important. It’s not been interesting to be a pawn in a big game.”
He added: “Sverre should be part of a long-term project and a generational change.”
While Arsenal are reportedly leading the race, Liverpool remain in contention. Their push to convince Nypan that Anfield is the ideal destination for his development will be crucial in the coming months.
Liverpool’s track record in developing young players could play a decisive role. With the likes of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones thriving in midfield, the club has proven its commitment to integrating youth into the first team.

Nypan’s price tag is also an attractive aspect of the deal. As FootballTransfers reports, “Rosenborg are open to selling their prized asset for a fee of around £12 million (€10m).” Given Liverpool’s recent focus on securing high-potential players, Nypan fits perfectly into their recruitment strategy.
The pursuit of Sverre Nypan is an exciting move for Liverpool. The club has always been at its best when investing in promising young talent, and Nypan fits the profile of a player who could thrive under Arne Slot’s philosophy.
At just 18, he has already demonstrated maturity beyond his years, making 60 senior appearances and contributing to 24 goals. His ability to play across midfield, coupled with his technical prowess, makes him an ideal addition to Liverpool’s evolving squad.
However, Liverpool face stiff competition. Arsenal’s reputation for signing young Scandinavian talent – particularly with Ødegaard flourishing under Mikel Arteta – could sway Nypan’s decision. That said, Anfield’s rich history of developing stars and offering young players significant game time should not be underestimated.
For £12m, this deal feels like a no-brainer. If Liverpool can convince Nypan that Anfield is the right place for him, they could secure one of Europe’s most exciting young midfielders for a bargain price.
