Liverpool are expected to make a lot of changes to their squad this summer.
The fact that Andoni Iraola and Victor Munoz have also already been brought in certainly backs this up.
Indeed, the signing of Munoz is a more then welcome one but, without some world-beaters being brought in, it's hard to see how Liverpool will do any better during the 2026-27 season than they did during the 2025-26 campaign.
There are many areas among Liverpool's ranks that need upgrading but, one of the main ones is their midfield.
Several players have already been linked with a switch but, it seems like Liverpool have actually reignited their interest in one of their former targets.
During the 2024-25 season, Liverpool thought they found their next Fabinho in Ryan Gravenberch.
Even though the Dutchman had rarely ever played as a number six, Arne Slot turned him into one of the world's best during his first season in charge.
After this, most people thought that his form would continue through the 2025-26 season with Liverpool even giving him a new contract worth around €100 million.
But, this did not happen as he was arguably one of Slot's worst-performing players last term.
This led to many rumours about the Reds' transfer window emerging with a new defensive-midfielder on top of their priority list.
As mentioned, many players have been linked but, as per a fresh update from TEAMtalk, it seems like Richard Hughes and Iraola have brought one of their prior targets back as a potential option.
"Liverpool were previously ‘the most keen’ to land Wharton, only for their interest to ‘fade in recent weeks’," they wrote.
"As a result, Palace are ‘growing increasingly confident’ they can keep the 22-year-old in their squad.
"Liverpool have several other targets in mind, including Thuram, Angelo Stiller (Stuttgart) and Kaishu Sano (Mainz)."
Since Stuttgart only want around €50 million (£42.8 million) for Stiller, he seems like one of the most reasonably priced players Liverpool have targeted.
Other teams such as Manchester United have managed to sign players such as Ederson for decent fees so, Liverpool eyeing a move for Stiller once again makes plenty of sense.
Stuttgart manager, Uli Hoeness, has claimed that there are 'no upward limits' to how good Stiller can be as, no matter what has been thrown at him, he's always managed to overcome it and come out better off.
The German is also only 25 years old so, even though he already has a lot of experience under his belt, there's still room for him to develop into an even better player than he already is.
His arrival would also enable Gravenberch to push further up the pitch and potentially replace Alexis Mac Allister if he does eventually end up joining Real Madrid, that is.
As with all of Liverpool's signings, they should only make a move if they know he's a good fit but, for £42.8 million, there's almost certainly not a better option on the market than the German.
