Liverpool have been having some bad luck on the injury front in recent weeks. Of course the big injury to hit the squad was for Giovanni Leoni.

The 18-year-old suffered a torn ACL on debut - with the £26m signing from Parma now ruled out for the season. There is also the case of Alisson Becker - whose latest hamstring injury is expected to keep him out until after the November international window.

Elsewhere the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones have been missing games here and there - with head coach Arne Slot no doubt hoping a full-blown injury crisis is averted.

But there is more bad news unfortunately with it being confirmed that Jayden Danns is expected to miss a significant chunk of the season.

The England youth - tipped to become the next Harry Kane - was involved in the recent EFL Cup tie against Southampton - but has suffered what appears to be a damaging hamstring injury.

“I’ve heard from someone in and around the club that it’s a pretty bad injury. I believe the hamstring has tore away from the bone,” Liverpool academy insider Lewis Bower told the Anfield Index.

"I was told straight away that it was from taking a free-kick and that was a reliable account of events. It’s looking like a lengthy period out and he’ll require surgery.”

Danns is a highly-rated academy prospect who has already played - and scored - for the Reds’ seniors.

The teenager has netted three times in 10 appearances and sat on the bench for the recent Champions League win against Atletico Madrid.

Last season he missed out on the opportunity for a Championship loan spell due to injury and everyone around the club will be hoping he recovers well from his latest blow.
