Liverpool will re-sign SPECIAL midfielder

Since moving to Lyon, Tyler Morton has showed that the decision to sell him and not give him a chance last season was a mistake.

He is simply pretty much everything Liverpool need right now. At Lyon, Morton is a controller in the middle of the park. He dictates the rhythm of the play and he's very good at securing possession and keeping hold of the ball.

Among U23 midfielders in the league, he ranks third for progressive passes (5.85 per 90), fifth for passes into the final third (5.31 per 90) and third for passes overall (48.74 per 90).

Morton is simply sensational at breaking the lines and he's been a key figure in a team fighting for the league title at the moment.

But it's not just his ability on the ball, it's also his ability to read the game that stands-out - something Jurgen Klopp was always appreciative of.

Morton has a very good footballing brain. He's able to anticipate where the ball is going to go and read his opponents.

He ranks in fourth place for possession-adjusted interceptions (4.86 per 90) in Ligue 1 this season and he's in the top 10 for successful defensive actions (6.13 per 90) among U23 midfielders.

Morton is comfortably one of the best young players in the league. He's comfortably exactly what Liverpool are lacking right now, and the profile they would be targeting.

There's no buy-back clause on his contract, unlike there was with Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah. But Hughes did get a sell-on clause worth 20%.

This gives the Reds a discount and it's something Hughes will inevitably have to trigger. At this moment in time, it seems like Morton is destined to re-sign for the club in the future.

Players like him are rare, and players who are homegrown and club-trained are even rarer.

If Morton was at the club right now with Curtis Jones injured and Alexis Mac Allister out of form, he'd be starting in midfield.
