Star forward is due back from AFCON in coming days
Mohamed Salah is due back at Liverpool following Egypt’s semi-final defeat at the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, the forward will not be in contention to feature against Burnley on Saturday, as he has one more game to play at the tournament.
The Pharaohs take on Nigeria in Saturday’s third-place play-off in Tangier, and FIFA rules state that players must remain with their national sides until the morning after their final game.
As such, the winger will not return at Anfield this weekend, with Slot confirming that the forward would return to Melwood next week.
However, Slot has a full complement to pick from, besides his three long-term injury absentees: Alexander Isak, Cononr Bradley and Giovanni Leoni.
Alisson will return between the sticks after Giorgi Mamardashvili’s run-out in the FA Cup win over Barnsley.
You would expect Dominik Szoboszlai to be named on the teamsheet once more despite his dreadful error to gift the League One side a goal at Anfield last time out, but his position is up for debate.
The Hungarian could deputise once more at right-back in Bradley’s absence, with Jeremie Frimpong perhaps fielded further forward, or he could also move into the midfield trio with Curtis Jones moving into the back four.
Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk remain the Reds’ first-choice central defenders, with only Joe Gomez as any sort of recognised back-up.
At left-back, Andy Robertson was given 90 minutes against Barnsley, but summer signing Milos Kerkez has established himself as the first-choice.
In the engine room, Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch are likely to be named, with the Argentine starting in the cup on Monday, before being replaced by the Dutchman late on.
Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha were both given opportunities to impress out wide, but youngster Ngumoha suffered cramp and was forced off in the second half.
Hugo Ekitike entered the fray in the second period up top as Cody Gakpo shifted to the left flank, and that should be how the Reds line up here, with Szoboszlai potentially shifted wide right.
Predicted Liverpool XI (4-2-3-1): Alisson; Frimpong, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Szoboszlai, Wirtz, Gakpo; Ekitike
Injured: Isak, Bradley, Leoni
Date and time: 3pm GMT on Saturday January 17, 2026
