One player set to return as another is ruled out for “a long time”

Jeremie Frimpong has been ruled out of Liverpool’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Arne Slot has confirmed.

However, Reds manager Slot hopes to be able to call upon his defender for next week’s visit of West Ham in the Premier League.

It’s worse for Wataro Endo, who was forced off against Sunderland last time out and now faces a significant spell on the sidelines

"Jeremie will not be involved this week, we hope he will be involved next week if things go as planned,” Slot said.

It is another tricky trip for Slot & Co., who lost 3-0 at Anfield to Forest earlier this season, and there will be a new face in the dugout in Vitor Pereira.

But any further dropped points would be significant in the race to qualify for the Champions League next season, with Chelsea at home to Burnley and Manchester United away at Everton.

Hugo Ekitike should come back into the starting line-up, replacing Federico Chiesa, while Ryan Gravenberch is expected to replace one of Curtis Jones or Alexis Mac Allister.

At the back, Joe Gomez is “ready to start”, but it remains to be seen if Ibrahima Konate will make way.
