With Jarell Quansah’s move to Leverkusen all but done, Liverpool have set their sights on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi to replace his fellow compatriot.

Guehi has just 12 months left on his contract, meaning Liverpool could get themselves a cut-price deal for the centre back this summer. However, should the Reds deem the price too high, they may take a leaf out of Real Madrid’s book and try and get him on a free transfer once his contract expires.

The 24-year-old looked set for a move to Tyneside last season but saw his move rejected by the club with Newcastle’s £65 million bid seen as insufficient by the Place higher-ups.

Should the move materialise, Guehi could become Ibou Konate’s successor with rumours that the Frenchman will be Madrid-bound come the end of his contract in 12 months’ time.

A move to Liverpool could help Guehi retain his place in the England squad under new boss Thomas Tuchel ahead of the 2026 World Cup. The move would see the Palace captain competing for the Champions League as well as the Premier League title.

In the past, Guehi has had nothing but praise for the Liverpool side, stating that “everyone knows how strong they are” and particularly highlighted how “quick and intelligent” Mohamed Salah is.

According to Football Insider, Guehi has informed his friends that he would favour a move to Liverpool over any other club, with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Newcastle all being interested in the defender.

Speaking on the ‘It’s Called Soccer’ podcast, Crystal Palace chairman, Steve Parish, stated that the club “have to be really open” in allowing players to leave.

“We’re a destination for those pros who have still got a massive competitive instinct, still want to do well, still want to give everything when they cross the white line, but they realise they’re probably not going to get to the level above us.

“Then there are players who are on a journey and are on their way to Bayern Munich and other clubs. We realised over a period of time that we have to be really open to it.”

Back in 2024, Gareth Southgate gave Marc Guehi his international debut, stating that the Englishman ‘passed his test’. Guehi’s performance at the 2024 Euros earned him plaudits from the pundits, with Micah Richards being “very impressed” by Guehi at the tournament, praising his “calm and composed” playing style.

Furthermore, former England goalkeeper Joe Hart spoke about Guehi’s performance on the Football Daily podcast, stating that “I thought he was exceptional, he stepped in and was really calm on the ball.”

Though the price tag has not been confirmed, Liverpool will be looking to pay around £40 million for Guehi or pay a lesser fee with the inclusion of winger Ben Doak in the deal being rumoured.

The centre back will be thirsty for more silverware after Palace’s FA Cup win, and Liverpool is certainly the best place to do that.
