Loaned Pride goalkeeper gets to work right away in Fort Lauderdale | OneFootball

The Orlando Pride roster boasts a wealth of goalkeepers. So the organization loaned one of theirs, who immediately went to work.

Goalkeeper McKinley Crone is now on loan to Fort Lauderdale United FC. She first joined the Pride as a National Team Replacement Player in the 2023 season. She returned the next pre-season as a non-roster invitee and stayed.

She appeared in five matches across all competitions, recording 14 saves. So to progress, she needed more work. Fort Lauderdale needs more expertise for the rest of the 2025-26 Gainbridge Super League Season. So this move is a great fit for all involved.

Crone’s first appearance in goal for Fort Lauderdale isn’t the one she was looking for. It was the team’s third consecutive loss, 4-0 to Dallas Trinity FC.

Lauderdale was behind by only two scores as late as the 71st minute. Crone made two big-league saves in those late moments. But Dallas added goals then and in the 89th minute. The opponents held against runs that featured effective through balls, but not sharp shots on goal.

Dallas Trinity remained in third place of the Gainbridge Super League while Fort Lauderdale has fallen to eighth, next to last above only the Tampa Bay Sun FC.

But Fort Lauderdale now has in goal someone who has proved fearless and capable, no matter how negative the circumstances.

Last season, just six minutes into a match with the Portland Thorns, Pride starting netminder Anna Moorhouse saved a shot by midfielder Olivia Moultrie. A goalmouth scramble erupted. Moorhouse collided with striker Mimi Alidou. She had to leave with an injury.

Crone got the call to finish the game. She kept things close for the Pride, save for a 16th-minute Thorns goal. It was her NWSL regular-season debut. To keep her team in the match, she had to stand tall against numerous shots, including a 79th-minute save.

McKinley Crone will continue standing tall as Fort Lauderdale works to make something of their season. The progress starts from their net.
