Sydney Lohmann was pleased by how City stood up to the challenge of Nottingham Forest to qualify for the League Cup quarter-finals.
Goals from Grace Clinton and Lauren Hemp were enough to see Andrée Jeglertz’s side over the line at the City Ground, with our 2-0 win guaranteeing top spot in Group A.
City had been held to a 2-2 draw by Newcastle United in our previous group fixture, and fellow WSL 2 side Forest put up a similarly gutsy display at times in the East Midlands.
But we were equal to the challenge, with Lohmann impressed by the manner in which we saw out the victory.
“I think the teams in the other leagues are strong teams, and you can see that from the results,” the Germany international said.
“So, we knew it was not going to be easy, and we’ve said it before that we’re a better team on paper, but we need to prove that by giving everything.
“We can’t take anything for granted or think that we can play at 90%, and that’s what we’ve tried to do.”
Lohmann was one of City’s standout performers in the engine room, having shaken off an early season injury following her summer move from Bayern Munich.

The Germany international says she’s enjoying her football at the Joie Stadium and feels she’s getting back to her best following her lay-off.
She added: “I’m just really happy to get another 90 minutes because the last time I managed that was quite a while ago.
“It’s always important to get game time, no matter who you’re playing against, because the games are always quite physical, so that’s important to get into a rhythm again.
“I am enjoying it a lot to be playing in this team, and I’m happy with any minutes that I get.”
