Ademola Lookman was omitted from Atalanta's squad as interest from Fenerbahce and Atletico Madrid intensified late in the window. The forward's future has become a live saga with negotiations running on parallel tracks.
Sport Mediaset reports that Fenerbahce reached a broad €35m plus €5m agreement, but talks have stalled over payment terms. Atalanta want a larger upfront sum, while the Turkish side prefer staggered payments.
The same report indicates Fenerbahce are reluctant to change their schedule and are awaiting Atalanta's final position.
Meanwhile, Atletico have an agreement in principle with Atalanta on a similar overall package. The structure appears more acceptable to the Italians, with no comparable demand for advance payments.
Even so, a deal is not close, as Lookman has not yet fully opened the door to joining the Spaniards. His proposed salary there is reportedly well below Fenerbahce's offer.
With two clubs in the frame and talks ongoing, his omission has fuelled suggestions an exit could be imminent. The coming days are likely to be decisive as all sides search for a workable formula.
