Hansi Flick arrived to manage FC Barcelona in 2024, and has since showcased his ability to lead this team to glory. In fact, even players no longer at the club seem to be impressed by the team’s mentality and the style of play that the German coach has managed to establish.
While speaking about the likes of Julian Alvarez and strikers in general recently, club legend Luis Suarez was also asked about his opinion on Flick’s Barça. As quoted by Mundo Deportivo, the Uruguayan forward had nothing but praise for the team and even stated that they continue to prove their critics and doubters wrong:
“They’ve been impressive. Every year people seem to say the same thing: that they won’t be able to maintain the intensity, that they can’t keep pressing so high, that such a high defensive line will eventually cost them. And yet they just keep doing it.”
Furthermore, he remains impressed with the consistency of Flick’s philosophy and how the squad has been able to adhere to it so efficiently and professionally:
“They’ve been playing with the same philosophy, largely the same players and the same demanding style for a long time now, and the team continues to respond.”
Beyond just the tactical and technical aspect of Flick’s Barcelona, Suarez also seemed particularly impressed by the German coach’s ability to connect with his players and always be transparent with them:
“Flick also seems like a manager who is very close to his players. He speaks honestly and tells them the truth. If a player isn’t going to play, he explains why and gives them his reasons. For a footballer, that’s incredibly important.”
Lastly, he also commended Flick’s tendency to understand the needs of his players and always consider the greater good for the squad:
“He’s a coach who understands what each player needs and also what the group needs. At a club like Barcelona, that’s especially valuable.”
Having played under the likes of Luis Enrique at Barça and Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, Suarez surely knows a thing or two about what defines a great coach at a top club. For him to hold Flick and his team in such a high regard is great to see, and the German tactician will certainly already be planning ahead for next season to achieve even greater things with his team.
