Leeds United favourites past and present have saluted Illan Meslier after the goalkeeper posted an emotional farewell to supporters.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Leeds confirmed his exit after his contract expired last week. The 26-year-old ends a seven-year stay with two Championship title winners' medals and a spell as a Premier League regular under Marcelo Bielsa.
His final couple of seasons did not go as planned, he lost his place to Karl Darlow and did not feature for the first team last season. On Friday night the Frenchman thanked fans and staff on Instagram, recalling his 2019 arrival as a teenager and stressing that Leeds will always be part of him as he seeks a new challenge.
With only Pascal Struijk longer-serving in the current squad, former team-mates quickly responded. Luke Ayling urged him to be proud of his time at Leeds, calling him a top player and an even better person, while Stuart Dallas said it had been a pleasure and wished him well.
Vice-captain Struijk added that it was a pleasure. Josuha Guilavogui reiterated his belief in him from the start, Willy Gnonto called him a legend and Joel Piroe wished him luck using the nickname Casper. Barry Douglas sent warm wishes to his tall French friend, with Sebastiaan Bornauw and Dani van den Heuvel also praising him and wishing him well.
