Harry Cornick has fallen out of favour under Gerhard Struber at Bristol City

Harry Cornick may be wishing for a Luton Town re-do as recent times at Bristol City haven't gone to plan for the forward.

Bristol City exceeded all expectations last season by occupying the final play-off spot before losing out to Sheffield United. But one man that couldn't find his feet in that side was Harry Cornick, and that same dilemma has seemed to continue into the current campaign.

After making the move to the Robins in January 2023 for Luton Town, the 30-year-old instantly became a regular starter having made 17 appearances in the second half of his debut season and 39 the following year in 2023/24.

However, goals have come at a premium for Cornick, having merely found the net four times in the Championship since his arrival.

His lack of firepower on a consistent basis has unsurprisingly led to fewer minutes, but not to the extent that Bristol City fans would have expected.

Having seemed to have fallen out of favour under the guidance of Gerhard Struber, a January exit may be on the cards - even a reintroduction with the Hatters could be a great option.

Harry Cornick's Bristol City days have been torrid

The 2024/25 Championship season was when things took a turn for the worse for Cornick in a Bristol City shirt. When it came to the end of the mid-season interval upon the closure of the January transfer window, the 30-year-old was still yet to play a part on the pitch in the league, with his only runout coming against Coventry in the EFL Cup.

Former boss Liam Manning was eventually handed the striker five appearances up until the end of the season, which all came from off the bench. With a lack of opportunity to prove himself to Manning, Cornick would've hoped for a change once Struber walked in the door this summer.

However, the continuation of his hardships even under new management has made it increasingly likely that he must move on and find a new home if he is to have any chance of reviving his career.

With Cornick now in his thirties, it's unlikely that the striker will be happy keeping the bench warm as he enters the final stages of his career. Added competition such as the likes of Emil Riis as well as their existing talent Scott Twine and Anis Mehmeti haven't given Cornick a sniff. Therefore, an exit would no doubt suit both the player and club.

Luton Town should look at re-signing Harry Cornick

With Cornick looking for an exit route from Ashton Gate, eyeing up a next destination could be difficult as he is a forward quite frankly out of form.

However, after spending five and a half seasons with now League One side Luton Town, making the step-down a division to link-up with Kenilworth Road once again, on paper, looks to be a shrewd piece of business.

The 30-year-old made well in excess of 200 appearances for the Hatters between 2017-2022 and became a prolific striker for them. The highlight was the 2021/22 season, where he scored 12 goals and provided four assists in the Championship and formed a quality partnership with the club's top scorer that season, Elijah Adebayo.

Having proven himself in the second-tier as a reliable figure to be the talisman, making the move to League One would be a sensible decision in order to rediscover his shooting boots, which would be aided by him knowing his surroundings.

As for Luton, they are a club who have high aspirations of making an immediate return to the Championship after facing bitterly disappointing back-to-back relegations.

The reintroduction of Harry Cornick would be a move that is more than welcomed by the Hatters fans due to him being a fan-favouite during his tenure. He could also mount a real challenge for a starting spot with heavy competition from the likes of Jerry Yates and Nahki Wells, who are yet to hit the ground running in their new colours.

The Hatters commonly operate with one central striker, and with new boss Jack Wilshere now at the helm, that theme may continue as his preferred formation has been 4-3-3 in his early managerial career. This could make Cornick's case more difficult if he were to make a move back to Bedfordshire, but with fresh ideas soon to be implemented, it would be a chance to impress.

Luton's top goalscorer in the early stages has been midfielder Jordan Clark, with three goals, highlighting that a talisman may be needed once January comes around. Although Cornick's track record in recent times hasn't quite been up to scratch, he would be a force to be reckoned with in the third tier as Wilshere could unleash his full potential that has been absent for over three seasons now. He could well be the difference maker they need in order to reach the heights of promotion that they have their sights set on.
