Lyon host Marseille this Sunday at Groupama Stadium for a mouth-watering Choc des Olympiques to conclude Ligue 1’s third matchday. Paulo Fonseca’s Les Gones have the opportunity to pile the pressure on Marseille and make it three Ligue 1 wins in a row. The former Lille OSC and AC Milan head coach is expected to rely on several former Premier League players.
Moussa Niakhaté will partner Clinton Mata at the back whereas former Arsenal full-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles will be tasked to defend Lyon’s right flank. Tyler Morton, who has impressed so far following his switch from formative club Liverpool FC, is set to start alongside Tanner Tessmann in Fonseca’s double midfield pivot, behind club captain Corentin Tolisso.
Belgium international left-winger Malick Fofana is expected to get the nod from Fonseca. Up front, the Portuguese is short of options as Georges Mikautadze has left his teammates to complete his move to Villarreal. Czech youth international Adam Karabec is poised to lead the line against Les Phocéens.
