Lyon could land more than €8m if Bruno Guimarães leaves Newcastle for Arsenal, thanks to a sell-on clause on any profit.

After weeks of talks, the Brazil midfielder is expected to join for €93m, BBC Sport reports, with The Times also reporting the figure.

When he moved to Newcastle on 31 January 2022, Lyon inserted a 20% share of any future capital gain above the €50.1m fee. At that price, the profit would be €43m, so Lyon’s cut should slightly exceed €8m.

That injection would aid Lyon’s strained finances since the John Textor period.

There could be further upside around Bradley Barcola. Having told PSG he will not extend, he is attracting major interest, with Liverpool prominent. Figures of €170m have been floated.

Lyon did not include a sell-on in his €50m move, so they would be limited to 5% of any fee under FIFA’s solidarity mechanism for clubs that trained him between ages 12 and 23. That could still amount to a tidy sum if a transfer at that level materialises.
