Eddie Howe's Magpies, who won their first domestic trophy in 70 years when they beat Liverpool at Wembley in March, entered the competition along with the eight other Premier League clubs currently competing in UEFA competitions (Champions League, Europa League and Conference League).

Newcastle and Bradford have met on a handful of occasions in the League Cup over the years.

In 1984/85, in the second round, the Magpies won 4-1 on aggregate over two legs - but City turned the tables two years later, winning 2-1 on aggregate at the same stage.

Then in 2000/01, United prevailed 4-3 in an all-Premier League tie in the third round at St. James' Park. Alan Shearer scored twice with Daniel Cordone and Steven Caldwell also on target, with Ashley Ward (2) and Ian Nolan replying for the visitors.

Fixtures will take place across two weeks (beginning Monday 15th and Monday 22nd September), with fixtures in the Champions League (week beginning Monday 15th September) and Europa League (week beginning Monday 22nd September) also scheduled during this period.

As holders, Newcastle United will be the first team to wear gold Carabao Cup sleeve patches, introduced to mark the 65th year of the competition. Supporters will be able to buy these soon.
