Kicker has revealed which club FSV Mainz 05 defensive midfielder Edimilson Fernandes will be moving to. The longtime Bundesliga professional – reported to be undergoing a medical at his new club yesterday – will head back to Young Boys Bern in his native Switzerland. Fernandes already spent the second half of the 2021/22 campaign on loan at the Swiss outfit.
During his last stint in the Swiss capital, Fernandes scored two goals and registered three assists in 14 Swiss Super League appearances. It’s unclear how much Mainz will pocket in terms of a transfer fee at this point. Fernandes maintains a current estimated market value of €4m.
Mainz are already firmly in the black with respect to their summer transfer balance. Jonathan Burkardt’s sale to Eintracht Frankfurt leaves the Rheinhessen with an estimated €12.3m surplus.
Head coach Bo Henriksen recently declared himself satisfied with the squad he has ahead of the coming Bundesliga campaign. Fernandes’ departure nevertheless cuts the squad down to 30 professionals
The German Conference League representatives may still wish to secure some more additions for their European campaign.
