Manchester City have agreed a deal to sign Norwegian sensation Sverre Halseth Nypan from Rosenborg, according to The Athletic.
The 18-year-old prodigy is set to join the Cityzens in a deal worth £12.5 million without any additional clauses or sell-on terms.
City believe Nypan has the potential to become a world-beater and have fended off serious competition from Premier League rivals to get a deal over the line.
The talented youngster is expected to sign a long-term deal with City, keeping him associated with the club until 2030.
Once the final details have been sorted out, the next step for City will be to send him out on loan to continue his development.
Nypan’s move to City is a huge step in what many believe should be a fantastic career. He joined Rosenborg in January 2022 and has bagged 14 goals and 11 assists in 70 appearances.
The teenager was already on the radar of several top clubs across Europe, but his breakout 2024/25 campaign forced them to ready their chequebooks.
Premier League clubs got a glimpse of Nypan’s outrageous talent when he produced a performance for the ages in Rosenborg’s 1-0 win against Manchester United in July 2024.
Nypan is a versatile and intelligent midfielder, capable of playing in multiple roles. He’s an attacking midfielder who has the adaptability to play as a number eight.
He’s sharp in tight spaces, quick with the ball, and adept at picking out line-breaking passes.
Once the deal is finalised, Nypan will become City’s fifth summer signing after Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and Marcus Bettinelli.
