Manchester City are edging ever closer to releasing Chelsea's grip on the Women's Super League by lifting the title this year. However, there is another test for Andrée Jeglertz's side this weekend.

The Citizens currently enjoy a healthy 11-point lead which could potentially be cut down to 'just' eight should second-place Manchester United defeat Leicester City in Saturday's game.

The only real concern City should have from now until the end of the season is complacency and winning against Arsenal may well even give the Citizens just a little room to be complacent.

However, Arsenal come into this game as 'world champions' after lifting the first-ever Champions Cup with an extra-time win over Corinthians at the Emirates Stadium.

Renée Slegers' side have plenty of motivation going into this one. As well as building on their trophy success, the Gunners have to fight for the right to be in the Champions League next season and a defeat could see them potentially end the weekend in fifth place albeit with one game in hand over those above.

The manner of defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season will also still rankle. It looked like Chloe Kelly had earned a point for the Gunners in the 83rd minute in Manchester last October only for Iman Beney to win it for the home side five minutes later – something City have been so good at this season.

Should Arsenal get revenge and hand City just their second league loss of the season then could there be a way in for the chasing pack?

The Citizens haven't been in this place for some time and still have to play two Champions League-chasing sides in Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the season who will both be desperate for points.

The WSL title race isn't done just yet but Manchester City could take an even bigger step towards the trophy this weekend.
