FULL TIME: Newcastle 0-2 Man City
After a cagey first half, Antoine Semenyo opened the scoring with a simple tap-in before having a second ruled out for offside. Newcastle had chances to level but tired late on and conceded a second goal in injury time.
GOAL CITY
Cherki gets a late second for the Cityzens. Rayan Ait Nouri bursts into the box, cuts back to Cherki and the playmaker tucks a tidy finish low past Pope.
CHANCE NEWCASTLE
Harvey Barnes puts a teasing cross into the box and Nick Woltemade is inches away from connecting with a diving header as the ball bounces behind for a goal kick. Big chance for the Toon.
CHANCE CITY
Cherki drives at the Newcastle defence and tries to curl his finish into the bottom corner. Pope reads the attempt and saves.

Rayan Cherki beats Lewis Hall for pace, strikes from a tight angle and Pope manages to save with his heel.
Bernardo Silva combines with Haaland and the Portuguese midfielder shoots towards goal. Newcastle's Lewis Hall is well placed to block.

Sandro Tonali races onto a loose ball on the edge of the area and sends a half volley whistling past the post.

Guess who it is? Semenyo bags his second of the night, meeting Tijjani Reijnders' corner with a flicked volley into the net.

Botman gets up to header towards goal from close range but the attempt is bundled behind by City's defence.
Newcastle probe for a quick reponse as Joelinton's shot from a tight angle is blocked. Guimarães has another pot shot from distance and Trafford holds comfortably.

GOOAAL MAN CITY
The Cityzens lead! Jeremy Doku beats Harvey Barnes, slips a cross into the six-yard area and it's poked towards the new boy Antonine Semenyo who taps into the net.
OFF THE WOODWORK
Newcastle race down the other end and Yoane Wissa's header is clawed away by Trafford. The ball then comes out to Bruno Guimarães, who thumps a stinging strike off the post.
Oooooh, Nathan Ake chips a cross into the six-yard area and it takes a big deflection off Anthony Gordon. The ball is heading towards the bottom corner but Pope gets down quickly to smother. Bright start from City.

HALF TIME: Newcastle 0-0 Man City
Yoane Wissa's early opening for Yoane Wissa by the far the best chance of the game so far. City built up a head of steam late in the first half but couldn't generate any clear-cut opportunities.
Phil Foden's corner reaches Nathan Ake and his effort is deflected over by a swarm of Newcastle defenders.
Just one minute of injury time to play at the end of the first period.
Jacob Murphy is unable to continue due to an injury and Newcastle's top scorer Harvey Barnes comes on.
Man City keep possession around the Newcastle area, but Sven Botman easily clears when the Cityzens eventually deliver into the box.
Jacob Murphy gets into a promising position on the right flank and chips a ball into the six-yard area. James Trafford is quickly off his line to claim that one.
Bookings there for Joelinton and Nico O'Reilly after a squaring up in the middle of the pitch.
Wissa receives the ball inside the box again in a promising position before the flag goes up for offside.
Nick Pope receives some treatment after going down with an injury. He's back on his feet and looks ok to continue.
