Haaland reveals inspiration for robot celebration

Manchester City jumped up to fourth in the Champions League table thanks to a stellar 4-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium.

The hosts were made to work for their opener as Dortmund, who have only lost once this season, pressed and pushed them in the middle of the pitch.

Phil Foden opened the scoring with a shot on the half-turn. It was a perfectly placed finish that rocked the German side who were then dealt another blow as former forward Erling Haaland rattled home City’s second.

Foden emulated himself in the second half to slot home his second, and City’s third before Dortmund managed to respond.

Waldemar Anton met a met taken set piece to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma at his near post but that was just a consolation goal as Rayan Cherki came off the bench to hit City’s fourth and his first in the Champions League.

Phil Foden provides timely reminder that Manchester City don’t just rely on Erling Haaland

The inevitability was that, wearing the captain’s armband, facing his former club, when he is in such irresistible form, Erling Haaland would score. The surprise was that anyone would outscore him. The unfortunate element for Borussia Dortmund was that, individually or collectively, it was not those in a yellow shirt.

A Phil Foden double with certain similarities meant that this is as close as Haaland has come to being upstaged by anyone else at Manchester City this season. Many a match has lent itself to the theory that they are over-reliant on their giant talisman for goals but this was not one of them.
