Another must-win game for Man City in the Premier League title race

Manchester City will have renewed hope in the Premier League title race ahead of facing Newcastle this weekend.

Pep Guardiola & Co. will have watched on gleefully as Arsenal again dropped points, this time against bottom-of-the-table Wolves, to extend their poor run to two wins in seven games.

While City trail Arsenal by five points, they now hold a game in hand - against Crystal Palace - and will welcome the Gunners to the Etihad Stadium before the end of the season.

Newcastle are no pushovers, though, and head to Manchester City having just thumped Qarabag 6-1 in the Champions League, having score four goals in the opening 33 minutes.

Erling Haaland is ready to return after shaking off an injury. The striker was not in the squad to face Salford last weekend, having suffered a knock against Fulham last week, though was pictured in training earlier this week and is back in contention. Savinho has also shaken off an injury, but Jeremy Doku remains sidelined with a calf problem.

Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic will definitely miss the match, and Max Alleyne's availability remains unknown after he was forced off against Salford.

Newcastle have been rocked by a serious injury to Bruno Guimaraes, which will keep the midfielder sidelined for around two months. Fellow midfielder Lewis Miley is hopeful of returning soon.

Yoane Wissa picked up a knock in training last week, but it is hoped he will be fit, while Sven Botman could also return after sitting out the FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

These two teams meet for the fourth time this season, and the second time this month, in what is a tricky test for City. Newcastle have shown they can take points off the best in the country, including against Pep Guardiola's side back in November, but have lost both meetings since the turn of the year.

The absence of Bruno Guimaraes is huge, though Joelinton and Sandro Tonali can still get the better of City's midfield on their day. But Newcastle have little in attack, and their defence remains a real concern. Should Erling Haaland start, City have the edge in a must-win game.
