Manchester United are set for a reunion with former manager Ruben Amorim against his new club, AC Milan, in a pre-season friendly.
According to the Standard, the fixture is scheduled to take place in Wroclaw, Poland, on August 15. It will be Amorim’s first meeting with United since he left the club earlier this year.
Amorim was sacked in January, with United sitting sixth in the Premier League table at the time.
Former midfielder Michael Carrick was brought in as interim boss and guided the club back to the Champions League with a third-place finish.
Amorim didn’t wait too long before he was back in the dugout. He took the vacant job at Milan, replacing Massimiliano Allegri, who failed to deliver Champions League football.
The Rossoneri were on course to finish in the top four, but a shock 2-1 defeat against Cagliari in their final fixture snatched Champions League football away from their grasp.
Milan will play in the Europa League, while United have returned to Europe’s elite competition for the first time since 2023 under Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag.
With Champions League football back on the agenda, United are now looking to strengthen their squad ahead of what they hope will be a successful campaign.
The clash with Milan will provide both clubs with an opportunity to assess their progress during the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils have already agreed a £38 million deal to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, but are also working on a deal to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United.
West Ham are demanding £80m for the Portuguese midfielder, but United are hoping they can lower their demands as the transfer window progresses.
They have also been linked with Crysencio Summerville, opening the door for a potential double raid on West Ham this summer.
