Manchester United have reportedly tabled an offer for young Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis, who has been on their shortlist for quite some time now.

The club’s Head of Recruitment, Christopher Vivell, has been vigorously working on landing some of the most exciting young talents in England, Europe and the rest of the globe.

Man Utd have only recently acquired the services of Cristian Orozco, a Colombian prodigy who has already arrived at Carrington.

While Orozco only cost the Premier League giants a reported £1 million, Man Utd will certainly have to splash the cash if they wish to secure the services of Mouzakitis, a Greek teenager whom they have been following since last season.

According to Greek newspaper Sport Time (via TuttoMercatoWeb), United have put €28 million (circa £24.5m) on the table in an attempt to convince Olimpiacos to part ways with their prized asset.

However, their bid fell short of the mark, as the Athens-based giants would only consider selling the 18-year-old for €40 million (£35 million).

Man Utd will face stern competition for Mouzakitis

The young Athens native rose through the ranks of Olympiacos, and he’s already a starter at the club. Moreover, he has become a regular feature with the senior Greek national team. After making his international debut in November, he has gone on to earn seven caps.

Mouzakitis might be a technical midfielder who draws inspiration from AC Milan star Luka Modric, but the source notes an interesting fact about the youngster, revealing that he had initially started his career as a goalkeeper, before being moved up the field in a major transition.

The report also warns Man Utd of competition from Real Madrid, while Transfermarkt links him with a host of European clubs, including Arsenal, Brighton, Porto and Napoli, but grants the highest odds in the race to the Red Devils.
