Manchester United U18s recorded another victory in the U18 Premier League, digging deep to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Head coach Adam Lawrence handed Shea Lacey his first start since returning from injury. He also reinstated Jim Thwaites, Victor Musa and Jacob Devaney into the starting line-up.
Lacey had two attempts saved by goalkeeper Luke Thompson in the first ten minutes, while Louie Bradbury also failed to score.
With United struggling to break the deadlock in the first half, Lawrence made three changes at half time.
He brought off Lacey, Bradbury and Devaney. They were replaced by Amir Ibragimov, James Overy and Samuel Lusale.
Musa quickly broke the deadlock, putting the ball home with a one-time strike after Overy delivered a cross into the penalty area.
However, United’s lead lasted only five minutes as Max Davies headed the ball home beyond goalkeeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes to bring Blackburn level.
Ibragimov restored United’s lead soon after, finishing clinically after Jaydan Kamason drove forward on the counter-attack before setting him up.
United have now completed a league double over Blackburn. They are the second team to achieve the feat alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Elsewhere, Manchester City U18s secured a 2-0 victory over Sunderland to maintain their spot at the top of the standings, meaning United remain two points behind their local rivals.
Man United return to action next Friday in the FA Youth Cup quarter-finals, where they will face Arsenal at the Sobha Realty Training Centre.
Their next league fixture is on March 3, when they take on Middlesbrough at the Carrington Training Centre.
