Manchester United return to action after the international break with a Premier League clash against Brentford at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Pressure is mounting on Erik ten Hag, who has not overseen a win in any competition in more than a month, and many will view Saturday’s contest as a must-win matchup.

Predicted XIs:

Man Utd (4-2-3-1): Onana; Dalot, De Ligt, Martinez, Evans; Eriksen, Casemiro; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Zirkzee.

Brentford (3-5-2): Flekken; Van den Berg, Collins, Pinnock; Ajer, Jensen, Norgaard, Janelt, Lewis-Potter; Schade, Mbeumo.

Time is running out for under-fire Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag lives to fight another day, having avoided the axe at Manchester United during the recent international break, but time is running out for the Dutchman to turn things around at Old Trafford.

Next up for the Red Devils is a home contest with Brentford and they go into the game in 14th spot in the Premier League – just five points clear of the relegation zone.

United have gone five matches without a win in all competitions, losing to Tottenham 3-0 in their last game at Old Trafford at the end of September.

A goalless draw away to a strong Aston Villa unit may have generated a little optimism but United need to start winning games again and this Saturday’s clash with Brentford could be crucial.

But a win over the Bees is far from a foregone conclusion, especially as Thomas Frank’s men sit comfortably in the mid-table positions, two points ahead of their Manchester counterparts.

United’s winless streak began with a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace before draws with FC Twente and FC Porto either side of that defeat to Tottenham.

They have lacked bite in attack with none of their players having scored more than once in the Premier League this season – Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt and Amad Diallo have each scored once in the top flight this term.

Man Utd vs Brentford Team News

The international break will have given a handful of players time to return to full fitness and Mason Mount is one who could return for Manchester United this weekend.

Alejandro Garnacho, meanwhile, missed the recent break as he recovered from a knee issue and he is a doubt.

In midfield, there is also uncertainty about Kobbie Mainoo’s involvement after he pulled out of the England squad and United will definitely be without Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui and Tyrell Malacia.

Manuel Ugarte will be assessed by the Red Devils.

Brentford also have their fair share of injuries with Yoanne Wissa, Rico Henry, Josh Dasilva, Igor, Aaron Hickey and Gustavo Nunes all expected to be unavailable.

Midfielder Mathias Jensen could, however, be set for a return.
