Manchester United are interested in signing Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki, according to Sky Switzerland journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The Red Devils have decided to step up in their pursuit of the 20-year-old Black Cats star after his impressive start to life on Wearside.

The Belgium-born DR Congo international has been one of Sunderland’s best players this season, helping them punch above their weight since their return to the Premier League.

United have had Brighton & Hove Albion defensive midfielder Carlos Baleba on their radar for a while, but are ready to turn to Sadiki.

The youngster has started in every one of the 15 Premier League games so far this term and is one of the reasons Sunderland are just two points off the Champions League places.

The Black Cats are ninth in the table, and the performances of some of their players have attracted admiring glances from elsewhere.

However, the Red Devils are not the only English top-flight club looking to lure Sadiki away from the Stadium of Light.

Chelsea are also keen and reached out to Sunderland after the two sides met in October.

The Black Cats ran out 2-1 winners at Stamford Bridge, with the young midfielder playing a key role for his side.

While the Belgian is primarily a defensive midfielder, he can also play as a full-back and centre-back. His versatility would be useful for United.
