Morgan Rogers has reportedly come to the decision that he should pursue a move away from Villa Park this summer, according to Charlie Gordon.

It would see the 23-year-old part ways with Aston Villa less than a year after he put pen to paper on a six-year extension in November 2025.

Morgan Rogers: The state of play

Manchester United are expected to be ‘contenders’ among a jam-packed race for his signature in the transfer window, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool all ‘longstanding admirers’.

However, with Rogers looking to be a ‘shoo-in’ for Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad, clubs will perhaps have to wait until the conclusion of the tournament to enter any serious negotiations.

Until then, though, there will likely be contact made for sides to put their proposals forward to the 13-capped England star, whom manager Unai Emery hailed as a ‘protagonist’ this season.

Rogers won’t be a priority for United

It remains to be seen how serious United’s interest is, given that their utmost priority this summer will be securing a marquee midfield signing when Casemiro departs in June.

Yet, with all of Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Jadon Sancho poised to leave, reinforcements will be essential in attack, even more so if United secure Champions League football for 2026/2027.

What’s Villa’s stance on offloading Rogers?

In regard to Villa’s stance on selling their talisman, they have conceded that a transfer may prove beneficial for all parties.

Should they miss out on UCL qualification in the coming weeks, they will also be without the sizeable financial boost it brings.

There is a recognition that Rogers is their most valuable asset, and so they would hope to recuperate around £80-100 million from his exit, having shelled out only £8m (rising to £16m) when bringing him in from Middlesbrough – where he played under Michael Carrick – in February 2024.
