Manchester United have progressed to the next round of the FA Cup by the skin of their teeth after a 2-1 comeback win against Leicester City at Old Trafford.

A turgid half of football from Ruben Amorim’s men would leave fans disgruntled as the club looked to reverse its fortunes in 2024-25, but United were toothless as the Theatre of Dreams remained silent throughout.

Frustrations could be heard ringing out around the ground before half-time, however, when Leicester’s Boddy De Cordova-Reid found an opener three minutes before the break, with the Red Devils failing to register a single shot on target before the break.

But new life would eventually be breathed into the team after the break after Amorim brought on Alejandro Garnacho for debutant Patrick Dorgu, and the Argentine would prove decisive for the remainder of the match.

Joshua Zirkzee would level matters at one-all in the 68th minute to give the Red Devils a lifeline on the night, and in a throwback to days gone by with Fergie time, United would find the winner three minutes into added time thanks to the head of Harry Maguire.

It was not pretty and seemed pedestrian at times, but a comeback win may be just the tonic to help the club push on under their new manager.
