Manchester City 3 (Erling Haaland 29′, Nico 45+3, Jeremy Doku 63′)

Liverpool 0

Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-nil at the Etihad Stadium today. First-half goals from Erling Haaland and Nico, plus a stunning goal from Jeremy Doku in the second half were enough for Pep Guardiola’s side to pick up all three points in a huge Premier League fixture. It was also a fitting result in Pep Guardiola’s 1000th match as a manager.

Jeremy Doku put in a sparkling performance to be Manchester City’s man-of-the-match in their big win. He wasn’t the only City player to perform well on the big stage and the City player ratings reflect this.

City player ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma-6.5/10: Had very little to do all game but made one big save. There was one nervous moment in the second half where Donnarumma came rushing out of his box but nothing significant came from it.

Matheus Nunes-8.5/10: Another outstanding display from Nunes. He set up Haaland’s goal with a brilliant cross and once again did his job superbly well.

Ruben Dias-8.5/10: A proper leader’s performance from Dias. He was superb across the full 90 minutes and some of his blocks were crucial for his team.

Josko Gvardiol-7/10: Did his job well across the full 90 minutes. It wasn’t a standout performance from Gvardiol but he did what he had to do.

Nico O’Reilly-8/10: Another big performance from Nico O’Reilly. Defended superbly well up against Mo Salah and was a weapon for his team going forward. Has become integral to his team.

Nico-8.5/10: Scored a crucial goal but his overall performance was absolutely superb. He is so much more than a Rodri stand-in in which he showed once again today.

Bernardo Silva-8/10: Other players will get the headlines but I thought Bernardo put in a superb captain’s display. Did all of the dirty work for his team and set the tone for his teammates to follow.

Phil Foden-7.5/10:  A very mature performance from Foden in midfield. Didn’t set the world alight but did what was needed in midfield.

Rayan Cherki-5.5/10: Had some nice touches but gave the ball away too often. Not his best day before he was taken off in the 53rd minute.

Jeremy Doku-10/10: Doku was unplayable as the Liverpool defence couldn’t contain him. He scored a stunning goal and was the best player on the pitch before he was substituted. There is a strong argument to be made that today’s performance was the best of Doku’s City career.

Erling Haaland-7/10: Scored his team’s opener and put himself about in the physical duels across the match. His penalty which was saved was unfortunate but he more than made up for that moment throughout the match.

Substitutes

Savinho-6/10: Replaced Rayan Cherki early in the second half but didn’t really influence the game.

Omar Marmoush-N/A: Not on long enough to mark but he did look lively.
