Manchester City 3 (Phil Foden 18′, Erling Haaland 52′, 68′)

Manchester United 0

Here are the City player ratings as Manchester City beat Manchester United 3-nil to win today’s Manchester derby. Pep Guardiola’s side deserved their victory, which came after Erling Haaland scored a second-half brace after Phil Foden opened the scoring in the first half.

The City player ratings show that Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku, and Erling Haaland were superb for Manchester City. The trio was the difference between the two teams on the day. Gianluigi Donnarumma put in a superb performance in his City debut. Abdukodir Khusanov was composed at right-back. Khusanov could be City’s solution to the right-back conundrum.

The match statistics below tell an interesting story. Manchester United had more of the ball, especially in the second half. Pep Guardiola’s side picked Ruben Amorim’s side off in the second half with ease. Perhaps Manchester City invited United onto them to create gaps on the counter. If that was the case, it is a new tactical evolution from Pep Guardiola and his team.

Here are the City player ratings from the Etihad Stadium.

City player ratings

Gianluigi Donnarumma-8.5/10: A brilliant Manchester City debut from Donnarumma. Made one stunning save and adds presence in goal to Pep Guardiola’s side.

Abdukodir Khusanov-8/10: Khusanov was brilliant at right-back. Defended well and made several critical challenges. A very good display from the young defender.

Ruben Dias-7/10: Much better from Dias. Didn’t lunge into challenges and went about his work with minimal fuss.

Josko Gvardiol-7/10: Played well at centre-back in his first outing of the season. Added composure at the back for Manchester City.

Nico O’Reilly-8/10: A very good performance at left-back from O’Reilly. Played a significant role in Manchester City’s second goal and did well defensively.

Rodri-6/10: A rusty performance from Rodri, especially in the first half when he was caught on the ball on multiple occasions.

Bernardo Silva-6.5/10: A busy performance from Bernardo. He struggled in the first half, and he looked like he couldn’t keep up with the game. He was better in the second half and set up Erling Haaland’s second goal of the game.

Tijjani Reijnders-6.5/10: An almost game from Reijnders. Could’ve scored one or two goals, but it wasn’t to be. He was also a lot better in the second half than in the first half.

Phil Foden-10/10: Manchester City’s man-of-the-match in my opinion. Played in midfield and dictated the match. Scored City’s opener and played a crucial role in his team’s second goal. Added exactly what his team so desperately needed.

Jeremy Doku-9.5/10: Arguably, Jeremy Doku’s best performance as a Manchester City player. Grabbed two assists, but his composure stood out before he was substituted. Excellent display from Doku.

Erling Haaland-9.5/10: A brilliant performance from Haaland. Scored a brace in typical Haaland fashion. His overall performance was superb as he helped his team defensively and was also a threat in possession.
