In a recent report, A Bola stated that Manchester City are in the mix to sign Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand. It has been mentioned that the Mancunian giants would have to compete with Arsenal in the race to sign the Danish talent in this summer transfer window.

Hjulmand’s Impressive Form In Portuguese Football

The 27-year-old managed to produce a run of impressive displays for Sporting last season. Hjulmand scored three times and earned six assists in 45 matches for the Portuguese club in the previous campaign across various competitions.

The Danish talent is currently one of the best central midfielders in Liga Portugal. Hence, it is no wonder that Man City are in the race to acquire his services later this year.

His current contract at the Portuguese club will expire in the summer of 2028, which could make it tough for the Mancunian club to sign him in this transfer period.

Should Manchester City Snap Hjulmand Up This Summer?

Hjulmand is a good tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and is an accurate passer as well.

The Danish club can strike the ball with venom from long range and has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates in the final third. Hjulmand is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. However, there are some concerns over whether he can cope with the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Mancunian club manage to sign him later this year.

We can expect Hjulmand to add more quality and depth to Man City’s midfield. He has what it takes to nail down a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium next season.

At 27, Hjulmand has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a good option for Man City to consider in this transfer window. With all things considered, Carrick would be wise to snap him up this off-season.
