In a recent interview with Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown revealed that Manchester City are ready to step up their efforts for Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento. Brown said,

“Livramento is a top target for Man City.

“They lost Kyle Walker to Burnley in the summer because he’s past his best now, but it doesn’t look like they’ve managed to replace him properly.

“A new right-back was one of the priorities for them in the transfer window, but they didn’t get it done.

“From what I hear, Livramento has been one of the names high up on their list.

“He’s tall, he can tackle, he’s very physical and he’s quick, he’s got a lot of good assets to his game.

“So for City, it’s no surprise that he’s on their radar and he’s a player they’ve been looking at for some time to solve the issues they’ve got in that position.”

Livramento’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Livramento had a solid campaign at the Tyneside club recently as he was responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The English talent played in 45 matches for Newcastle last season, securing one assist in the process across all competitions.

The 22-year-old was a decent performer when defending inside his half after he made 54 tackles, 37 blocks, 23 interceptions and 108 clearances in the Premier League. He was even accurate when distributing possession relatively well after completing 85.4% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via fbref.com).

Should Manchester City Boss Pep Guardiola Go For Livramento?

Livramento is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind clearing his lines when the opposition are on the offensive.

The English sensation can even create the odd chance for his teammates to score when he is playing with confidence on the field. He mainly operates as a right-back but can also fill in as a left-back if required.

Livramento would no doubt inject more quality and depth into Man City boss Pep Guardiola’s defence. He is good enough to compete with both Rayan Ait-Nouri and Matheus Nunes for one of the full-back positions in the Mancunian club’s first XI.

At 22, Livramento has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday. Therefore, Guardiola would be wise to go for a player of his skill set next year.
