Manchester City beat Liverpool 3-nil in their final Premier League fixture before the current international break. City’s win at the Etihad over Arne Slot’s side has them well placed in the Premier League as they sit second on the table only four points behind Arsenal. But more important than that, is that Pep Guardiola’s side looks to be in a good position to attack the 25/26 season now that City’s new-look squad has seemingly gelled.

Manchester City’s new-look squad has taken time to gel. That isn’t a surprise given the amount of upheaval City underwent during the past two transfer windows. They began this season slowly with two defeats in their first three matches this season. From that point onwards, City have only lost once in their past fourteen matches in all competitions and the signs are overwhelmingly positive for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Erling Haaland has continued his strong form across this season. He has scored 19 goals in 15 matches and while his team was learning to play together, Haaland’s goals have carried City through the early stages of this season to a degree. With Omar Marmoush now fit, Jeremy Doku looking to have taken his game to another level and Rayan Cherki fit, City do look to have more support for Haaland in the final third. The attacking options are there for City in the final third and that is a massive positive for them.
Nico has held down the number six position in Rodri’s absence. His superb form has allowed Rodri to get the rest that he needs. As Nico has excelled Manchester City’s midfield has grown. Phil Foden has moved into midfield and taken his game up a gear. Bernardo Silva has been reliable as always in midfield and his leadership has been crucial to his team.
In defence, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Ruben Dias have been pivotal to Manchester City’s strength at the back. The impressive performances at left and right-back from Nico O’Reilly and Matheus Nunes have been a pleasant surprise and given stability to the positions for City. Josko Gvardiol is building into the season and John Stones has so far avoided injury and done his bit when required. Rayan Ait-Nouri is yet to fire a shot as injury has delayed the beginning of his City career. Abdukodir Khusanov looms as another option at right-back for Pep Guardiola as City’s defence looks strong.
The entire Manchester City squad looks well set for what comes after the current international break. Pep Guardiola’s side is in form, and growing as a unit. Outside of Mateo Kovacic, provided there are no new injury concerns to emerge from the current international break, Pep Guardiola has almost an entire squad to utilise. They also have Rodri to come back into the fold so they seemingly have an ace up their sleeve. All told, Manchester City are well placed for what lies ahead and that is all that anyone associated with City could ask for as this new-look Manchester City squad began life together this season.
