There is a possibility that Rico Lewis could leave Manchester City during the current transfer window. Jack Gaughan has reported for the Daily Mail that Nottingham Forest are pushing to sign the England international. If Lewis were to leave City, the assumption would be that Pep Guardiola’s squad could do with a replacement for Lewis. Preferably, a player who could share the right-back duties with Matheus Nunes. A new report has linked City with a move for versatile Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong.

Chelsea is thought to be reluctant to sell the promising young defender. But the report gives the impression that Manchester City will look to replace Rico Lewis if he does leave the club.

Manchester City, Bournemouth and other clubs are interested in signing Josh Acheampong from Chelsea.

Ewan Murray and Jacob Steinberg have reported for The Guardian that Manchester City is interested in signing Josh Acheampong from Chelsea. Furthermore, the Guardian report indicates that Bournemouth, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and West Ham are also interested in signing the impressive young defender. Clubs across Europe are also keeping tabs on Acheampong as per the Guardian report. It is believed that Chelsea would reject any offers for Josh Acheampong if they did arrive.

Josh Acheampong is a talented young defensive prospect, but it seems unlikely that Chelsea will sell him.

It is easy to see why Manchester City and a host of other clubs have an interest in signing Josh Acheampong. The young defender is one of the brightest young defensive prospects in English football. Acheampong is a versatile player who can play at centre-back or right-back. Acheampong is a technically gifted player with a good range of passing. He can play as an overlapping full-back or can drop into midfield in a similar fashion to John Stones from centre-back or right-back.

As a defender, Josh Acheampong has all of the attributes to be a quality defender. He is blessed with tremendous athleticism and pace. Acheampong reads the game well and his defensive positioning is sound. The Chelsea defender is also strong in a duel so he looks to be a bright defensive prospect. He is only 19 years of age so the potential is there for him to become an elite player.

It’s easy to why Manchester City would be interested in signing Josh Acheampong. He could step into Pep Guardiola’s squad as a right-back if required. But it seems that Chelsea will not sell the young defender. It is easy to see why. But if they do change their mind it would not be a surprise to see City move for Josh Acheampong. Especially if Rico Lewis leaves the club.
