Real Madrid are very much interested in reinforcing their centre-back department once again next year, after having spent heavily on Dean Huijsen last summer.

David Alaba is expected to bid goodbye when his contract expires at the end of the season, while Antonio Rudiger’s future is not guaranteed either. Eder Militao’s recurring injury woes only add to the concern, making a new defensive signing a necessity.

Real Madrid, though, are looking to target potential free agents in the market with names such as Dayot Upamecano of Bayern Munich and Marc Guehi of Crystal Palace being identified as key targets.

While Bayern are trying to renew Upamecano’s contract, competition for Guehi is growing stronger by the day. The likes of Barcelona and Liverpool are interested in the England star, and now other top club has entered the race.

Manchester City want Guehi

Indeed, according to The Times, Manchester City have thrown their hat in the ring for the signing of Marc Guehi in the summer.

As per the report, the 25-year-old defender has emerged as a serious target for the Cityzens, who have closely monitored his progress in the Premier League over the past couple of years.

With John Stones’ contract expiring, and Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake also expected to leave, Pep Guardiola & co. are keen on bolstering their defensive ranks and see Guehi as an ideal fit.

Manchester City’s entry into the race could complicate matters for Real Madrid as it would allow Guehi to remain in England while challenging for major honours.

So, it will be interesting to see how things develop in the coming months, especially given that Los Blancos see him as an important target and even scouted him in a recent game.

Upamecano also remains a serious option for Real Madrid, however, although Bayern Munich are not giving up on their efforts to renew him and remain optimistic of their chances.
