Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side have found out who they will face in the last-eight of the Carabao Cup following their fourth round victory.
The Etihad Stadium outfit eventually cruised their way into the quarter-final of the League Cup despite a first-half scare that saw Goncalo Franco give Swansea City the lead in impressive fashion with a great hit from distance giving James Trafford no chance.
Despite opportunities to extend their lead, Alan Sheehan’s men were unable to capitalise and it would present Jeremy Doku with the chance to bring Manchester City level before the interval and take the tie into the half-time break at 1-1.
The second-half would become one-way traffic as Manchester City piled on the pressure and retained possession of the football high up the pitch, and in and around the Swansea City penalty area.
It would take patience for Pep Guardiola’s side to break down a resolute Swans rearguard, but Rayan Cherki would be the decisive player when he split the defence to find Omar Marmoush, who turned on the ball inside the penalty area to slam home from close range and tight angle.
And the Frenchman would then get himself on the scoresheet to cap off a match-deciding Player of the Match performance, latching on to a pass from Josko Gvardiol to drill home in additional time to secure Manchester City’s place in the last-eight of the Carabao Cup.
Now, following the completion of the Carabao Cup quarter-final draw on Wednesday night, Manchester City have found out that they will face Brentford at the Etihad Stadium in mid-December.
Arsenal vs Crystal Palace
Cardiff City vs Chelsea
Manchester City vs Brentford
Newcastle United vs Fulham
The Carabao Cup quarter-final ties will take place on the week commencing 15 December.
