Manchester City have initiated contact to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium club and the Spurs star are aware of Man City’s interest, but the club are hoping to convince him to sign a new deal.
However, Spurs are preparing for Porro’s potential exit and will demand at least €57 million from suitors.
Former Tottenham manager Thomas Frank believed only the Spaniard could play for a really elite European team in the North London club, and they could now lose him.
Man City are looking to get a deal done before the World Cup as incoming manager Enzo Maresca wants to assemble his squad as soon as possible.
Their sporting director Hugo Viana knows Porro from their time together at Sporting Lisbon and will hope their relationship can help lure him away from Spurs.
The 26-year-old played 46 games for Tottenham this season and was a key player under all three managers they had this term.
Porro has played 151 games for the Lilywhites since joining them in January 2023 and has been a key player over the seasons.
The Spain international could be about to sign for Man City for the second time having first done so in the summer of 2019 while at Girona.
However, he was immediately loaned to Real Valladolid before joining Sporting for a two-season loan in 2020, making the move permanent in 2022.
Porro moved to Spurs afterwards and has proven himself in the Premier League, with Man City now big admirers as they prepare for life without Pep Guardiola.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham will be keen to lose such a key player as manager Roberto De Zerbi plots a summer rebuild and a potential squad overhaul.
