Interest from Premier League champions Manchester City in €60 million-rated RB Leipzig midfielder Dani Olmo is now ‘getting concrete’, according to reports.

Etihad Stadium bosses are continuing their hunt for new midfield recruits this summer, with the club both eyeing contingency plans for life without Kevin De Bruyne and his eventual departure, as well as targeting a capable back-up for mainstay Rodri.

Discussions in various quarters of media have indicated that Manchester City have identified Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes as a primary target, but not at the valuation of the player’s now-expired £100 million release clause.

Elsewhere and Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich continues to be an option for the defensive midfield ranks in Pep Guardiola’s squad, but further patience is required concerning the German, who is expected to address his own future at the Allianz Arena later this month.

But the latest reports have pointed towards an intensifying situation concerning one of Kimmich’s European Championship quarter-final opponents, but a player also operating in the German Bundesliga.

According to the information of German newspaper BILD, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, ‘the track’ leading Dani Olmo to Manchester City is ‘going to be really hot’ this summer transfer window.

The report claims that the pursuit from the Etihad Stadium is now ‘getting concrete’ due to Pep Guardiola’s own desire to bring the 26-year-old versatile Spanish international to Manchester City.

Despite links to a whole host of names, including Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz, City are reportedly showing ‘great interest’ in Olmo as they see him as an ideal candidate to replace Kevin De Bruyne.

For now, it is further explained that the ‘flirtation between Dani Olmo and Pep Guardiola is getting hotter and hotter’, but the midfielder will not make a decision on his future until after the ongoing European Championships in Germany.

Whilst the latest claims from German media will point towards clear transfer interest from Manchester City in Dani Olmo, the latest update concerning the player from market expert Fabrizio Romano painted a very different picture.

Speaking towards the end of last month, the Italian journalist made clear that, “Man City appreciate Dani Olmo, Man City like the player, he was one of the players they had on the list, for example last summer or two years ago.

“But at the moment, as of now, Manchester City are NOT working on a deal for Dani Olmo… At the moment, the intention of Manchester City is not to advance on this kind of solution, because they are looking at different opportunities, different positions.

“So as of today, Dani Olmo is going to Man City? NO. At the moment the situation is quiet.”

With Manchester City returning to pre-season duties and training within the next two weeks, supporters can expect transfer plans to solidify and activity to increase, especially as Copa America and the European Championships conclude.
