Yesterday it was revealed that Ederson could be set for a spell on the sidelines. Manchester City’s number-one keeper was substituted during the second half of his team’s 5-2 win over Crystal Palace at the Etihad on Saturday. Jack Gaughan reported for the Daily Mail that the Brazilian international has battled a groin injury for the majority of this season. Injury issues have plagued Manchester City all season long. Now it appears that they could get Phil Foden back for Saturday’s clash with Everton at Goodison Park. That is good news for Pep Guardiola’s side as they continue to battle a sizable injury list.
Simon Bajkowski has reported for Manchester Evening News that Phil Foden has a chance to return from injury this weekend. Foden sustained an injury during Manchester City’s nil-all draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford. He missed Manchester City’s win over Crystal Palace due to the injury he picked up against United. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that the knock that Foden picked up isn’t thought to be too serious. That is welcome news for Manchester City as they’d prefer to have Foden available for selection rather than on the sidelines.
As it stands current a host of Manchester City players will be out for Saturday’s clash with Everton. Erling Haaland, Rodri, Nathan Ake, Manuel Akanji and John Stones will all miss the match. Ederson is highly unlikely to feature at Goodison Park. That does mean that Pep Guardiola will be without a host of key players for the must-win fixture.
Although Phil Foden hasn’t had the best season he is a key player for Manchester City. The hope is that he is fit for Saturday’s match at Goodison Park as Foden will likely have a key role to play in City’s push to qualify for next season’s Champions League. A further update on Foden and Ederson’s condition is expected when Pep Guardiola fronts the media on Friday.
