Manuel Akanji has spoken candidly about his loan move to Inter Milan from Man City, admitting the transfer was a stressful experience while acknowledging that his future beyond this season remains unclear but insisting his focus right now is entirely on the Nerazzurri.
The Swiss international joined Inter on loan from Manchester City in the autumn, with the move coming together in the final hours of the transfer window.
Speaking to Swiss broadcaster SRF on the programme ‘Gärdig Direkt’, via FCInterNews, Akanji reflected on the chaos of deadline day deals and the toll they take on family life.
“Everything happened at the last minute,” he admitted, adding that his wife and three children are always at the centre of any decision. He was keen to acknowledge the role his wife plays behind the scenes, describing her daily life as “more stressful than mine, especially mentally.”
The defender explained that the move came about after a difficult start to the season at the Etihad, where Manchester City found themselves with six fit centre-backs competing for just two places.

With game time hard to come by, Akanji and his agent assessed their options, and Inter emerged as the destination.
On the question of his future, Akanji was refreshingly honest.
“What will happen in the summer? Will I end up at another club?” he said, before making clear where his head is at for now.
“At this moment, my full attention is on Inter.”
It is the kind of answer that will do little to settle speculation about whether City will cash in on the defender permanently.
However, Inter supporters will at least take comfort in his commitment for the remainder of the campaign.
That being said, it seems likely that Inter will active their option to sign Akanji on a permanent basis.
Away from club football, Akanji also touched on Switzerland’s World Cup ambitions, expressing hope that the national side can progress beyond the last 16 this time around.
Indeed, a target that feels both realistic and ambitious for a nation quietly building one of Europe’s more cohesive international setups.
