Andriy Lunin is staring at an uncertain future at Real Madrid this summer despite the club’s intentions to keep hold of him.

The 25-year-old Ukrainian international enjoyed an excellent season last time out, capitalising on the absence of Thibaut Courtois to prove himself and showcase his quality.

However, with Courtois coming back from injury in the latter stages of the season, Lunin was again relegated to the bench as the Belgian reclaimed the No. 1 spot, starting in the UCL final.

Lunin, who at that point was ready to sign a new contract with Los Blancos, is now hesitating and could opt to leave in the current transfer window.

Manchester City eye Lunin

Now, according to a report from Bernabeu Digital, Premier League champions Manchester City are interested in signing Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid.

The Cityzens are likely to part ways with first-choice goalkeeper and key player Ederson Moraes this summer, who appears to be on his way to Saudi Arabia.

And, as such, Pep Guardiola & co. are already on the lookout for replacements, with Lunin emerging as an option, along with FC Porto star Diogo Costa.

A move for the Portuguese international looks difficult with Porto unwilling to let him leave, which could lead to Man City looking at Lunin as a more favourable option.

The 25-year-old is said to fit the parameters for goalkeepers that Guardiola has set and considering that his future at Real Madrid is unclear, a departure is not out of the question.

Real Madrid also identify replacements

While Real Madrid are happy with Lunin and intend to retain his services, they will not stand in his way if he asks to move on this summer.

In fact, in preparation for such a scenario, the European champions have already identified possible candidates to replace the Ukrainian international.

Indeed, Real Madrid would look into re-signing Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea or move for Espanyol’s Joan Garcia in case Lunin were to leave.

With Manchester City said to be interested, the player might be tempted by the possibility of a switch.
