Real Madrid have been one of the most active clubs in the transfer window so far, bringing in the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella.

It does not look like Los Blancos are anywhere close to done, with the Spanish capital club placing emphasis on revamping the squad at Jose Mourinho’s disposal.

Among the many names potentially linked with a move to Real Madrid is Manchester City ace Ruben Dias, one of the best central defenders in the world.

He was asked about the possibility of joining Real Madrid alongside Bernardo Silva, but the Manchester City defender chose not to feed the transfer talk.

When asked, “Me to Real Madrid with Bernardo?”, Dias replied: “Portugal questions only.”

The exchange came after Bernardo’s move to Real Madrid, which has naturally increased attention around other Portuguese stars who could fit into Jose Mourinho’s rebuild.

Dias did not deny anything directly, but he also made it clear that he was not willing to discuss his club future while focused on Portugal.

Real Madrid’s defensive search continues

Real Madrid have already been linked with several centre-backs this summer, and Dias is the kind of defender who would always make sense on paper.

He is experienced, aggressive, vocal and used to playing under huge pressure. He has played under Pep Guardiola and could bring some of that quality to Mourinho’s team.

For Mourinho, a player like Dias would be easy to understand. Still, there is a long distance between profile and possibility. He remains a crucial Manchester City player, and there is no concrete offer from Real Madrid yet.

No need to over-read the response

Dias was asked a transfer question and chose to shut it down because he is with the national team.

That is exactly what a senior player should do. During a major tournament, anything more open would create unnecessary noise.

There is nothing to draw from this, positive or negative. The idea of him signing for Real Madrid is tantalising, but that is about as far as the fans can go right now.

A defence with Dias’ command and experience would be exciting, especially if Mourinho wants to make the team harder, sharper and more reliable in big matches.

It remains to be seen whether the Manchester City defensive ace is actually on Los Blancos’ radar and whether they make a move for him in the near future.
