Manchester City will rival Liverpool and Real Madrid in the race to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth this summer.
Kerkez is attracting interest from elite clubs after two excellent seasons on the South Coast. The Hungary international has been an important part of Andoni Iraola’s side, who are pushing for a place in Europe next season.
Bournemouth are expecting significant offers for several key players this summer. The Cherries expect to lose Dean Huijsen – who has a £50m release clause – Antoine Semenyo and Kerkez in the summer window. However, Bournemouth will demand high fees for the trio and expect to recoup around £150m from those sales.
Liverpool have been heavily linked with Kerkez, who ranks third in the Premier League for crosses into the penalty area this season. The Reds are considering Kerkez as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson, whose performances have been criticised this season. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes was behind Bournemouth’s signing of Kerkez before his move to Anfield last summer.
However, the Merseysiders will reportedly face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester City and Spanish champions Real Madrid, according to Sky Sports.
Pep Guardiola has utilised Nico O’Reilly at left-back in recent weeks but has insisted the academy product is not a natural defender. Josko Gvardiol’s move into a centre-back role has made the signing of a left-back a priority for the Citizens.
City were linked with Juventus defender Andreas Cambiaso – who can feature in both full-back roles – during the January transfer window.
