Manchester City are expected to submit an official bid to Ligue 1 side Lyon in the next hours after reaching an agreement on personal terms with Rayan Cherki (21), according to Fabrizio Romano. The Cityzens are reportedly leading the race to sign the France international attacking midfielder as they seek to replace the departing Kevin de Bruyne as the team’s creative outlet. Manchester City notably pulled out of the race to sign Bayer Leverkusen prodigy Florian Wirtz after being put off by the total cost of his transfer.
Manchester City consider Cherki a cheaper option than Wirtz, who is expected to join Liverpool. Pep Guardiola has visibly laid out the groundwork for Manchester City to sign Cherki as both parties reached an agreement on personal terms, reports Romano. The Italian reporter adds that the Premier League side is expected to submit an official bid to Lyon in the next hours to wrap up the deal. Initial club-to-club talks reportedly started over the weekend.
Cherki is currently with France’s senior squad with Les Bleus set to face Spain this Thursday at Stuttgart for the Nations League semi-finals.
