Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva has announced that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season as a free agent when his contract expires.

The 31-year-old Portuguese international has long been on the agenda of FC Barcelona, with the club aggressively chasing his signing in the past few summers, especially when Xavi Hernandez was in charge.

Now that Silva is set to be available for free, his name has once again been linked with a move to the Spotify Camp Nou, with the midfielder himself understood to be keen on the switch.

Silva offered to Barcelona, but not a priority

In fact, according to journalist Adria Soldevila on Cadena SER, Bernardo Silva has been offered to Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window.

With the midfielder free to choose his next club, his services have been put on the table for the Blaugrana to consider.

However, as per the same source, Silva is currently not a priority for the La Liga champions even though his name has been on the club’s radar for years.

As things stand, Barcelona have a plethora of quality midfielders at their disposal, and there are more promising talents coming through La Masia.

As such, strengthening the midfield with the Portuguese international’s signing is not considered a priority at Can Barça.

It is true that Barcelona value Silva’s profile and experience that he brings to the table. But, for now, despite being offered a chance to sign him, they are not treating it as a priority.

Instead, the Catalans’ full focus is on strengthening the centre-back and the No. 9 positions in the summer, with Alessandro Bastoni and Julian Alvarez emerging as the main targets.
