Etihad Stadium bosses are reportedly leading the hunt for one of Major League Soccer’s most prospective talents in Peyton Miller.
The New England Revolution left-back is deemed as one of the most significant young talents in the entirety of MLS’ history and has already attracted the likes of Inter Miami – where Lionel Messi currently plays – and LA Galaxy.
Inter Miami, who are also interested in signing Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva according to some reports, initially viewed Miller as a long-term successor to Jordi Alba following the World Cup winner’s retirement at the end of the season.
However, LA Galaxy are as determined as their competitors in landing the defender, and plan to offer a record-breaking domestic transfer package including an unprecedented amount of General Allocation Money (GAM) to hijack the deal.
And although European clubs such as Borussia Dortmund and VfB Stuttgart have monitored Miller closely, Pep Guardiola’s side are currently leading the chase and treating the move with utmost priority, according to SportsBoom.
The report claims City’s extensive scouting network has placed the 18-year-old under the microscope and have analysed his performances closely in no fewer than 12 matches over the last six months.
After all, Miller fits the blueprint for the modern full-back that Guardiola often takes a likening to, and his tactical intelligence on and off the ball has seemingly moved him to the top of Manchester City’s priority list for future talents.
As has been exercised before, the Premier League side could even sign the defender before sending him back to New England Revolution on loan to gain more first-team experience in the United States.
With competition for a place at left-back fierce at the Etihad Stadium, Peyton Miller is not expected to make an immediate impact with the likes of Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Ait-Nouri both being preferred at this stage.
But it would only bolster his experience if he is to return to the MLS temporarily or gain minutes at the top end of the Championship table – which is perhaps the second-best option in this scenario.
Despite winning the battle thus far, Manchester City are not the only Premier League club looking to sign Miller, with both rivals Chelsea and Arsenal also deeply entrenched in the pursuit.
It is reported that Mikel Arteta admires Miller’s ability, while Chelsea’s scouting department continues to file extensive reports focused on the young star’s physical development and readiness for the Premier League’s intensity.
One thing is for sure that he is a talent with plenty of potential, and although his future is undisclosed at present, a move to Manchester City could suit him best in a side that is deemed the greatest of this modern era.
